Residents upset by Big Island Dairy’s GMO corn
Some residents on the Big Island are upset that the Idaho company that bought Big Island Dairy LLC is growing genetically-modified corn as feedstock on some 700 acres of land near Ookala.
The Hawaii Tribune Herald reports Big Island Dairy owner Steve Whitesides told Hawaii County Councilman Dominic Yagong that the GMO corn was already being grown on the land by the dairy’s previous owner. Whitesides bought the former Island Dairy Inc. late last year for $13 million.
