Discover to refund customers $214 million for deceptive credit card practices

Discover Financial Services, one of the nation’s largest credit card issuers, will refund $200 million to 3.5 million customers it duped into buying costly and unneeded credit card products.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. on Monday issued a joint enforcement action against Discover, fining the firm a $14 million civil penalty for using deceptive tactics to sell payment protection plans and other add-on services.
